Ashish and Kamayani team reports on flood relief

hi priya, ravi, sunita and dr bhagat
kamayani and team were able to reach out to 1500 people in araria with food packets. food was purchased locally and package by volunteers locally. there are 10 volunteers with kamayani who are doing excellent work . handling of such large numbers can be extremely difficult. however it was managed very nicely by the team. when i talked to kamayani she said that a very difficult job was well accomplished in a very organized manner. Medha patkar is also in the area and she, kamayani and other volunteers went to the rescue site yesterday. The also had a meeting with the administartion there. as usual the administration was not keen to listen and act. there is a meeting with other groups in purnea and hopefully many concrete items will come out of that.

Residents of krishna nagar in patna have organized themselves and are collecting material and packaging it (5kh choora, 1 kg gud, match box, candles). I have teamed up with them and we will be sending a truckload on 7th to araria. the response of the citizenry has been good so far and we really want to involve them as much as possible in the whole process.

water has started to recede in some areas and thats a relief. this is going to be a long long journey...

i sense that we will need more money, so i request aid to release 1 lakh rs again.

thanks,
ashish

ps: i spoke to dharmendra ji, he is trying to work with vidya babu (bgvs person) in saharsa. he was planning to visit saharsa. however the rail link to saharsa is broken now..lets see how we can reach out to the needy in saharsa
